The above image is the result of an adaptive algorithm simulating the growth of a root or blood vessel. The only constraints are

  1. Maximise your surface area
  2. Minimise your volume
  3. Cells older than 20 time steps cannot produce new growth

By tweaking these requirements we can produce a range of differently branched root systems.
